Converting a PC Car to Xbox (SA)
By 82_Z28
---------------------------------------------------

What you need:
-txd workshop
http://www.invisionplus.net/forums/index.p...s&showtopic=213

a car (example)
http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1167

ok, this is a pretty simple process for this particular mod. The package has a dff file (the car model) and a txd file (the textures)

the xbox version needs the textures to be compressed and to be in VC XBOX format. If a texture isn't compressed hit properties and change it. In SA they should be compressed in both the pc and xbox version so all you should have to do is change the format accordingly. When your done, hit save and your done.

once the txd's are good to go, install it like you would any other vehicle mod. if you need more details, refer to my other tutorial here:

if there not already. San Andreas actually uses texture compression even on the pc version, just formated differently. Its gta3 and VC you would have to enable compression to each bmp individually.

theoretically speaking it should be the same experience on cd but its a LOT easier to make changes on the hard drive. Also the loading times are faster.

The .dff file is the model itself.
The exact points and relative coordinates and other geometry are stored in this file.

Then to make it look more realistic the developers slap a bitmap image texture on the side of it to make it appear detailed.

This image (or images depending on the model) file is stored in the .txd file

If you were to say edit a sign to say Hollywood instead of Vinewood, you could simply edit the bitmap image stored in the txd file rather than making a whole new sign .dff and txd file.

if you want to get crazy with reskining, you may need to modify the .dff file slightly depending on what you want to do.

hope this clears things up a little better smile.gif

only problem with that is if you stand behind the sign it still reads vinewood! lol!

oh, and babygotback, if you find TXDs are too big, you may notice that some of the texture files are 1024x1024 or bigger, you can always export these, resize to 512, or even better 256, which will greatly help file size,

I found a Honda NSX the other day that had a texture of 2056x2056, and it was just the Honda badge, so resizing it changed the TXD from being 6mb, to 750kb!

Yeah, just export as a PNG or TIFF (or is it TARG?) then open the image-editor of your choice (Photoshop, Paintshop, Paint.net biggrin.gif , or GiMP)
